Meet the Phenomenal Woman of 2022

Adriene Holder, Esq.

ADRIENE HOLDER, ESQ.

Lisa’s Living Room Phenomenal Woman of 2022 Adriene Holder serves as the Chief Attorney of the Civil Practice of The Legal Aid Society and has devoted her entire professional career to challenging poverty and racial injustice. Adriene is responsible for managing the provision of comprehensive civil legal services through a network of neighborhood offices, and specialized city-wide units serving all five boroughs of New York City with 600 staff working on more than 50,000 cases each year. Prior to her appointment to Chief Attorney of the Civil Practice, Adriene served as Attorney-in-Charge of the Harlem Office; practiced law as a staff attorney in the Law Reform Unit of the Civil Practice; and began her career as a staff attorney in the Housing Law Unit of the Harlem Office.

In addition to her formal duties, Adriene also serves as a member of the New York State. Permanent Commission on Access to Justice; is a delegate on the New York State Bar House of Delegates; is a member of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Legal Aid; is a member of the New York State Bar Association President’s Committee on Access to Justice; is a board member on the New York Legal Services Coalition; is an executive board member for Housing Court Answers; and previously served as a Tenant Representative on the New York CityRent Guidelines Board. Adriene has also served as an adjunct professor at The New School and as a volunteer instructor at Columbia Law School.

Often called upon to work on the Society’s legislative agenda, Adriene frequently testifies before legislative bodies on the city and state levels. She also is consulted on various legal and policy matters impacting low-income communities by the media, law schools, and policy or governmental agencies.

Adriene received her B.S. in Political Science from Spelman College and received her J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Meet Moderator Danielle B. Hardy Esq.

Danielle B. Hardy, Esq. is a New York-based Entertainment Attorney and In-House Counsel for Universal Music Group, the world’s #1 record label. As counsel on the Business and Legal Affairs Team, Danielle handles record deals, license agreements, brand partnership deals, and merchandise agreements, and more. Originally from Maryland, Danielle is a proud alumna of St. John’s University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Legal Studies. Immediately after graduation, Danielle began her legal career and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Elon University School of Law. With years of vast experience in the entertainment industry, Danielle’s credentials include working at the top companies in the music and entertainment industries, including Universal Music Group, Spotify and Viacom.

Danielle prioritizes giving back and she is the visionary, Founder & CEO of Pursuing the Esquire, LLC, an organization that supports aspiring minority lawyers get to and through law school through mentorship. Pursuing the Esquire was created out of Danielle’s mission to increase diversity in the legal profession. Having personally experienced the vast benefits of phenomenal mentorship in her personal and professional life, Danielle is paying it forward and helping the rising and aspiring minority lawyers coming behind her. As the first lawyer in her family, she knows how difficult it is to navigate through the process of getting into law school and getting through law school. Danielle is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the former Royal International Ms. Maryland 2019.

Meet Special Guest Lauren R. Jackson, Esq.

Lauren R. Jackson, M.P.A., Esq., is an award-winning social entrepreneur, attorney and speaker driven by the principles of sisterhood, faith and the elevation of women and girls of color. 

In her role as Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Instilling My Ability to Naturally Embrace Excellence, Inc. (IMANEE), she has developed a platform dedicated to the development of the world’s next generation of leaders, social justice advocates and community change agents. Additionally, she uplifts women through her creation of the Shero Brunch, an event that cultivates an afternoon of fellowship and connection among women. Her work with IMANEE has allowed her to travel throughout the country serving as a guest speaker and workshop leader presenting on topics such a leadership development, activating your faith, self awareness, school-to-prison pipeline and business creation. She has served as a speaker for the Seeds of Fortune Leadership Academy, the Young Enterprising Sisters Conference, Educating Children of Color Summit at Colorado College, The Black Girl Project Summit, the Speak Life Vision Board Paint Party and the Jewel Ministry at St. Paul Community Baptist Church. Lauren has been featured in Queen + Queen Magazine, XONecole.com, The Felicia Brown Podcast, MyFaithHeels.com and the We Are Still Becoming Podcast. In 2016, she was selected as a Changemaker to attend the first ever United State of Women Summit in Washington, D.C. 

Lauren’s legal career has allowed her to serve in various roles with organizations such as the Human Rights Council of New York City, the New York State Department of Human and Civil Rights, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Additionally, she served as a judicial intern for the District Court of the District of Columbia, working alongside Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and as a law clerk for Judge Magali M. Francois of the New Jersey Superior Court in Bergen County. Lauren’s dedication to civil rights allowed her to present oral argument before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, with Supreme Court nominee and Chief Judge Merrick Garland presiding. Currently, Lauren works as an Associate with a firm Newark, N.J. and is the managing member of The L. Renee Group, LLC, a business/legal consulting agency. 

Lauren holds a Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law (JD ‘17), a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Seton Hall University (MPA ‘11, BA ‘09). She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Epsilon Sigma Iota Legal Sorority, Inc.

Meet Special Guest Sadijah Johnson, Esq.

Sadijah Johnson, Esq. joined the New York City Law Department in 2018 as an Assistant Corporation Counsel where she was assigned to the Queens Family Court Office’s Juvenile Delinquency Unit. Sadijah was appointed to the Special Victims Unit in April 2021. The Special Victims Unit handles all sexual assault, child abuse and teen dating violence cases, as well as cases with victims under the age of nine years old. Sadijah is a graduate of  the first degree granting Historically Black College and University in  the United States, The Lincoln University of PA and Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. 

Sadijah is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and focuses her free time on volunteer opportunities and mentoring youth and other future students and law students of color.  Sadijah resides in Brooklyn, NY.
